If forty Taliban, armed with AK-47s, had gathered outside a meeting of Afghan women trying to organize the women of their community, the event would have at least made it onto NPR or MSNBC.
So the 40 gun owners who gathered outside of a meeting of Moms Demand Action not making it onto the media radar should be no surprise. I needed to resort to Twitter to find out what had happened.
It seems to me that these insurgents, like their counterparts in Iraq, etc, felt a need to make a show of force. Insurgents, in many cases, are not only fighting the government, but also the population as a whole. There is evidence that Americans as a whole support common-sense gun legislation; background checks, limits on magazines, etc all have solid public support. With a victory in Virginia by a candidate backed by Moms Demand Action and the Coalition To Stop Gun Violence, the Mayor of New York City having voiced support for divesting from firearms manufacturers, and the upcoming midterm elections, 2nd Amendment absolutists may feel they are being backed into a corner. The right-wing media is likely doing it's part to stir the pot as well.
But it seems that their efforts may have backfired. The most common thing I have heard the mob that gathered in Texas compared to is bullies. In a sense they are, a bully strives to intimidate, especially those they see as weak or an "other". How does one defeat a bully, by standing up to them!
Much the same as one takes on a insurrection!
You do realize that announcing that only 4 Moms attended the meeting is on itself admittance that the movement is a failure?
ReplyDeleteAnd how come Moms never meet where there is Gun Violence? Inner cities, gang areas, drug-infested neighborhoods?
Or it is still growing, I have seen MSNBC giving this a lot of time, that can only help build the movement.
